East Side Day Academy participants learn life skills, including (but not limited to) academic, vocational, interpersonal, communication, health, safety, and daily life skills. East Side Day Academy staff teach people to use local resources and develop relationships in the communities where they live, work, and play.
We are always out and about! We have a Y membership and we work out there every week! We love visiting local parks, shops, restaurants, museums, fairs and festivals, and the Zoo! There is ALWAYS something going on!
Located at the eastern edge of Cincinnati, East Side Day Academy serves people from Hamilton, Clermont, Butler, and Warren Counties, in their OWN communities. Transportation services are available.
East Side Day Academy provides daytime programs for adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. We accept the following funding sources: IO Waiver, Self Waiver, Level 1 Waivers, and Private Pay.
We believe learning and growing is a fun, life-long process; that developing healthy relationships promotes happiness and success; that people should learn how to build relationships and partnerships in their communities; that people should be empowered to take control and make choices; and that EVERYONE has value and is worthy of LOVE.
Program Options Include:
DAILY ACTIVITIES- We practice, teach, and discuss daily tasks, such as cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, money management, and grocery shopping.
APPROPRIATE, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION- Through role-modeling, discussion, and role=playing, we teach communication skills, using a variety of modes including, but not limited to, computer skills and written , verbal , and non-verbal communication.
COPING SKILLS- Through discussion, role-playing, and role-modeling, we teach coping skills, such as anger management, dealing with feelings, choosing appropriate reactions, identifying consequences, and proactive strategies.
RECREATION/LEISURE- We teach and explore both group and solitary activities, such as arts and crafts, games, outings, fitness, events, and events.
ACCESSING COMMUNITY RESOURCES- Together, we explore local and regional resources, such as stores, libraries, churches, parks, farmer's markets, and events, with an emphasis on low-cost/free options. We also teach the value of giving back through volunteer opportunities.
DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS- We address developing relationships in the community and on personal levels, with an emphasis on respect, safety, and active participation.
